LIGHT on stories
the freedom of movement and the comfort of the roots
My grandfather's hands held light, a miner's lamp, deep underground in Belgium. He moved there alone in the sixties, dreaming of one day returning to Greece. I often think of him now that Greece is my home. What was once a place of departure has become a place of arrival. for now.
I like to think that roots and culture are not what keep us in place, but what give us the freedom to move. An invisible thread between where we come from and wherever life takes us. Perhaps we dare to wander further because something in us knows the way home. And with every place we come to belong to, our roots reach further, and so does our freedom.
ORPHOS IS MY PERSONAL JOURNAL. I CREATED, NAMED, AND DESIGNED IT AS A SPACE WHERE MY STORY, MY WORK, THE OBJECTS I MAKE, THE PEOPLE I MEET, AND THE MOMENTS I CAPTURE COULD COME TOGETHER. A COLLECTION OF DIFFERENT EXPRESSIONS OF WHAT SHAPES AND INSPIRES ME.
ORPHOS was born from two words for light: or and phos. Two languages, two places that have shaped me. Brought together into a name rooted in more than one place, yet belonging entirely to neither.

WHAT I DO
read stories
Light on Stories gathers fragments of my family history, stories of friends, and People whose paths have crossed mine and left something behind. An exploration of where we come from, what we carry with us, what freedom means to each of us, and the light we find, seek or create along the way.

everything i like to do
I am Céline. I am from Belgium and was born to a Greek family. and I think that partially explains my eagerness for life, my love for joy, and my attraction to beauty and light.
I started ceramics simply because I wanted to create my own candles. Clay was the obvious medium through which that idea could exist. And when I lit my candles for the first time, something I had made with my own hands reflected something back to me: my time, my attention, my growing skills, and the joy it gave me along the way. And I found beauty there too : in the fact that the light of my candles was a quiet dialogue between what I had created and what the act of creating made me feel.
And I feel kind of the same feeling when I put light on people's stories.
DIMITRA
Milan Kundera once wrote that a life is composed the way music is, that we take what happens to us by chance and turn it into a motif, a note that returns and gives shape to everything after it. Without even realizing it, he said, we build our lives according to laws of beauty. I think this is why I love branding. It's not so different from what he described, taking moments, ordinary details, stories, and finding the note that runs through them. I like to put light on a story, with poetry, and give it a shape it didn't quite have before. Not inventing something new, just helping people see the motif that was already there.
when it comes to my story, i like to think that light is its motif, the metaphorical thread that ties my roots and my freedom : light is what lets you see where you come from, and it is also what draws you forward, toward wherever you're going next.
